Nail Art in Hanoi Old Quarter: How to Choose and Book a Set
A set of nails can be a good souvenir from Hanoi, as long as it fits around your plans. Detailed art takes real time, and a design that looks great in a photo may not suit your nail length or a week of backpacking.
This is how we talk guests through it at Massive Nail on Hang Dao street, so you can decide before you sit down.
Start with what your trip allows
A full set usually takes us 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the service and the design. Detailed art or stones can take a little longer. So before you choose a design, check two things:
- Your time: leave at least two hours free, and more for a complicated set. Don't plan it right before a train, a flight or a tour pickup.
- Your hands: if you are about to go trekking in Ha Giang or kayaking in Ha Long Bay, a shorter, stronger shape will hold up much better than long stilettos.
Choose the shape first, then the design
The shape decides how much room the art has and how practical your nails are day to day.
- Short round or square: the safest option for a busy trip, and clean French tips or simple art look good on them.
- Almond: a good middle ground that looks elegant and makes fingers seem longer.
- Coffin or square extensions: a wide surface, so they work well for painted flowers, chrome and ombré.
- Stiletto: the most dramatic shape, and also the one you will notice most when typing or doing up a backpack.

The kinds of art we do
We focus on nail and lash design. For nails, that covers:
- Hand-painted art: flowers, animal prints, seasonal themes or something you draw yourself.
- 3D art: raised shapes that stand off the nail, such as bows and curved lines.
- Chrome: a mirror or metallic finish, on its own or as an accent.
- Stones and charms: crystals, pearls and small metal pieces. These are the most eye-catching, but they are also the most likely to catch on clothing, so we often suggest keeping them to one or two accent nails if you are travelling.
Bring any photo you like and we will recreate it as closely as your nail length allows. You can also browse the designs on our main page and tap one to book it.
Send a photo before you come
Design prices depend on the detail, so the easiest way to avoid surprises is to send us your photo on WhatsApp at +84 878 612 776. We will give you the price before you come, and tell you honestly if the design needs extensions or more time than you have.
Walk-ins are welcome whenever there is a free slot, but evenings can be busy, so booking ahead means we will be ready for you. We are open every day from 9:00 to 23:00, and the last booking is at 21:30.
How your appointment goes
- Consultation: we look at your nails and talk through the design.
- Preparation: we clean your hands, remove old polish, trim cuticles and shape the nails.
- The service: gel polish, extensions or nail art, done carefully.
- Finishing: we check every detail and adjust until you are happy with it.
- Aftercare tips: how to look after the set while you are on the road.
Making your nails last while you travel
- Use a little cuticle oil or hand cream each day. Sun, sea water and hotel soap all dry out the skin around your nails.
- Don't use your nails to open cans, zips or bottle caps. Most breaks happen this way.
- Wear gloves for hand washing clothes if you can.
- If a stone comes loose, don't pull at it. Press it flat with clear tape until you can get it fixed.
